Student Life

At International High School, you have the freedom to express yourself in a variety of academic or co-curricular arenas. With the support of a close-knit community, you feel comfortable exploring new things.

We are dedicated to recognizing and supporting student-initiated and student-driven activities, and encourage students to get involved in such programs as an opportunity to develop leadership skills, express their individuality, and have fun. International High School students create dynamic involvement opportunities through student government, clubs and organizations, and social events.

Student Council

The Student Council of International High School is a democratically elected association that represents and strengthens the student body. It strives to establish strong connections and effective means of communication in the community, while maintaining the students’ best interests as a priority. The International High School student body is committed to the following ideals:

  • Be a supportive community that accepts diversity.
  • Respect people’s property and look out for each other.
  • Become more aware and responsible of the environment.
  • Be a true community that monitors and takes ownership of its actions.

Clubs

International High School students are encouraged to get involved in an existing club or create a new one. Here is a sampling of our current student organizations.

Black Student Union

Our mission is to promote awareness on black issues and provide a safe place for all to discuss their concerns as well as problems of inclusion.

Fashion Empowerment Club

Our mission is to create a club where students may experiment with fashion, try new trends, and create their own pieces, without fear of judgement. We wish to inspire self-confidence in our peers and to create a more positive and united high school. We will also aim to spread awareness of cases of the fashion industry’s immorality by critically discussing topics regarding the definitions of beauty in different societies, how these definitions and stereotypes affect us day to day, and the environmental impact of the fashion industry’s actions.

Humane Society for Animals

The purpose of the Humane Society for Animals (HSA) is to provide International High School students with animal-oriented volunteering opportunities, to confront animal cruelty, and to educate others on how to create a safe and humane world for animals.

International Radio Station

International Radio Station is a student-led organization. With the help of select teachers and faculty we aim to interest and engage the entire International high school community. All content aired is the decision of our International radio team as a whole, in line with the school's mission and values. Our radio community brings together people of all origins, beliefs, and opinions. Together, our goal is to establish a creative yet real space where everyone can share their thoughts.

Model United Nations

MUN is a club simulating what actually happens with the United Nations. We attend conferences where our delegates get to practice skills such as debate, amongst many others!

Student Athlete Advisory Committee

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is comprised of student-athletes representing each of the athletic teams. The SAAC’s roles are to: promote communication between athletics administration and student-athletes, generate a student-athlete voice within the campus athletics department, build a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletics teams, organize community service efforts, and promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.

Student Travel Project

The Student Travel Project is a student-led effort to organize an international trip that will be offered next year as part of the Global Travel Program. This new trip will not only be unique, transformative, and educational, but also match as closely as possible the hopes, passions, and dreams of its future participants.

TEDxYouth

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxYouth@FAIHS, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxYouth event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

The Environment Squad

Our goal is to partner with the San Francisco Department of the Environment in environmental clean-ups throughout the city to strengthen San Francisco's title as one of the greenest cities in the world.

The Gay Agenda (LASER)

The Gay Agenda of International High School exists to promote active advocacy and constant, tangible reform with the school, as well as provide a safe space for all LGBT+ students. Our goal is to ensure that the administration and faculty, as well as the student body, take responsibility for transforming our school into a genuinely safe and productive environment/community for students of all identities, that will set model for other high schools to follow.

Some additional clubs include Animal Activists, Bake 4 Lives, Chess Club, Cooking Club, Diversity Discussion Group, Drama Club, Dance Club, Peer Counseling and Tutoring, Reading Buddies, Robotics Club, Math and Science Clubs, and Yoga.
