Welcome to the Middle School

The bilingual education program at the French American International School provides our students with a springboard for a global perspective. The daily curriculum is taught in English and French in a way that makes learning exciting and challenging and meets the high standards of the French educational system as well as high American standards.

Dear Families,

Fabrice Urrizalqui, Middle School PrincipalWelcome to the middle years at French American International School. Unlike most American middle schools, ours features 75% French-language instruction and 8-10 subjects including:

  • Two mother-tongue literature classes
  • Two cultural perspectives on mathematics
  • History and geography
  • Physics and chemistry
  • A third language (Spanish, Chinese, Italian, or Arabic)
  • Advisory

At the middle of 7th grade, most students travel to a country in which their chosen third language is spoken, encouraging them to apply their skills in real-life scenarios and to learn about the cultures behind the languages.

While the middle years are an academic bridge between our lower school and International High School, they are also the time in which students begin to forge their identities. As they hone how they learn, they also hone who they are. By the time they complete middle school, they speak three languages; use iPads as learning and presenting tools; take educated risks; and have a strong sense of both self and community.

We look forward to seeing you.
