Global Travel

We are called French American and International for a reason. Every year, our Middle School students get to “Experience the World” quite literally by participating in unforgettable cultural and linguistic trips and exchanges all over the globe. These unique experiences, inextricably shared and deeply personal, are full of transformative learning moments that truly embody our school’s mission and values. The trips abroad take place during the academic year and last about two weeks each.

2017-2018 Destinations

Morocco (Grade 7)

Relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States date back to the Revolutionary war. In 1786, under Sultan Mohammed III, Morocco became the first Arabic state, the first African state, and the first Muslim state to sign a treaty with the United States. During this trip, 7th graders will not only explore this fascinating and friendly country and culture, but also be granted the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in Arabic and hone their language skills. One of the highlights will be an overnight stay in Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Italy (Grade 7)

Our Grade 7 trip to Italy is a grandiose immersive experience enabling students to improve their Italian through small-group classes, interaction with local students, and a homestay with local families, while visiting some of the most beautiful places on Earth: Amalfi, Capri, and Salerno. Of course, no travel to Southern Italy would be complete without a cooking class! Our 7th graders will also discover the art of ceramics during a workshop led by a renowned pottery maker.

Nicaragua (Grade 7)

This Grade 7 trip will offer great exposure to the Spanish-speaking world in an exotic, but very safe environment. Students will attend daily language classes, participate in cultural excursions, and interact with local peers. Students will have the opportunity to utilize Spanish in real-life situations—including with their host families.

China (Grade 7)

The Grade 7 trip to China will provide students an opportunity to not only explore the locations they learned about in History and Chinese classes, but also experience a completely different culture and dive deep into the daily life in Beijing.

France (Grade 8)

The Grade 8 trip to France is one of our school’s oldest traditions—a true rite of passage for our young French-American minds. Hosted by local families, students are paired with exchange partners from two world-famous schools: École Alsacienne and Notre-Dame de Sion. After two weeks, Paris will definitely feel like home for our students, who will get to visit some of its most exclusive locations and best kept secrets.
