Athletics off to a blazing start
Posted 09/14/2015 10:37AM

It's not just the weather heating up--the Jaguars are, too. With respect to last year, participation numbers are up school-wide, with a 13% increase in high school athletics and a 17% increase in grades 5-8. "The first couple of weeks, here at International and French American, have been outstanding!" says Athletic Director Scott Kennedy. "The student-athletes have been working extremely hard, exhibiting positive attitudes, sportsmanship and fortitude. As league competition commences shortly, the overall climate of athletics continues to be optimistic. We look forward to watching our student-athletes performing well, on and off the playing field."

The numbers speak for themselves:

High School: For the fall, there are 125 student-athletes playing a fall sport. This has increased by 13% from last year. As of now, there are a total of 194 high school student-athletes intending to participate in athletics in the 2015-16 year. This number is expected to increase even more as the year continues. At this time last year, 146 signed up. 60% of our 9th and 10th graders have started Athletic Track for their Physical Education requirement, working out with Coach Mike every Tuesday and Thursday.

5th-8th Grade: For the fall, there are 122 student-athletes playing a fall sport. This has increased by 17% from last year. As of now, there are 157 5th-8th student-athletes intending to participate in athletics during the 2015-16 year.
