French American and International Recognized for Clean Energy Use
Posted 09/10/2018 01:25PM

A recent study by the Solar Energy Industries Association, Brighter Future: A Study on Solar in US Schools, recognized schools across the country who are using solar installations to power their buildings. French American and International has 630 solar modules covering more than 11,340 square-feet of our roof, resulting in a nearly 36% reduction in utility usage each year.

In addition to our green buildings, our sustainability curriculum empowers students to understand what it means to be responsible citizens of the world. We make it clear at every grade level that students’ local decisions have a global impact. Our youngest students plant urban gardens of pollinator targets, delving into the sharing economy and the ways their actions matter for our planet’s future. In Middle School, students build green architectural models designed to reduce carbon dioxide, harvest rainwater, and generate solar energy. And in High School, students continue their studies on climate change, exploring population dynamics and biodiversity in and out of the classrooms to deepen their understanding of stewardship.

As our students' studies evolve, their collaboration expands beyond the classroom to a world perspective that has roots in their Maternelle urban garden!

"Research shows that younger children have a superior ability to learn a second language and that bilingual students tend to outperform their monolingual peers."
