Welcome, Class of 2022

The adventure begins! We are delighted to welcome new students and their families to our International High School community.

The purpose of this page is to provide, in one place, key information that parents and students need for a seamless beginning to the 2018-2019 academic year.

In the coming weeks we will provide more precise details about your login to the "behind the scenes" features of our website. This will include the Haiku Learning Management System (LMS) that will provide student (and parent) access to class descriptions, and details of class content and assignments as they unfold.

Please note that at International you never have to pay extra for books. They will be provided by your teacher, and your teachers will let you know about any supplies you may need at the beginning of the school year.

Forms & Handbooks

Performing Arts Auditions

The arts are an integral part of life at International. New students are highly encouraged to audition for the 2018-2019 arts season — no previous experience is required!

An overview of the program along with required forms and essential dates can be found here. To help prepare you for the audition, the arts department also has put together some sample material.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

By moving to a BYOD program, we know that our students will be better prepared for college and the workplace after being trained on appropriate devices for writing, data processing, and computer programming.

This document provides answers to frequently asked questions about our program as well as recommendations to help guide you as you determine what laptop your child will bring to school next year.

Please note that as a school we remain committed to inclusion and access. Financial assistance is available to help offset the cost of buying a laptop. Families in our need-based financial aid program may request assistance in purchasing a device through our Device Support Program.

Summer Reading

The English Department has selected Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as the freshman summer reading assignment. Please see the letter from our English department outlining the details of your reading.

French Department Summer Reading List

The French Department recommends a few books in French for your children over the summer. Students are encouraged to keep a journal in which they will write about their reading impressions. View the summer reading list here!

Athletics

All student-athletes should attend the Athletics Leadership Orientation on Monday August 13, 8:00am - 5:00pm in the Marin Headlands. We will meet at the gym at 8:00am for transportation. From there, we will bus to the Marin Headlands for a great day of challenging activities. This day will set you up for a successful year as an International student-athlete.

If you are only planning on playing a spring sport, you are still encouraged to attend. This is a fun day, filled with activities geared to help you navigate your way through high school athletics, meet new friends, and learn a lot about sports at International.

Throughout the summer months, there will be open gyms and conditioning sessions offered for student-athletes to stay in shape over the summer. More details can be found on the Athletics page of the school website.

Fall Sports Information:
Men’s Soccer, Women’s Tennis, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Cross Country, and Co-ed Club Sailing student-athletes can expect a 4-6 day per week commitment after school, beginning Monday, August 13 and continuing through early November. Practices & competitions are held during October Break.

Global Online Academy

International High School is a member of the Global Online Academy (GOA) which is one of the largest and most well-established providers of online courses for independent and international schools; it has a very strong support system for students taking online classes and a well developed professional learning program for its member schools.

GOA courses are rigorous and require five to seven hours of weekly commitment; they can be taken in addition to the classes followed at International but can not replace a class.  The offerings include a number of subject areas that are not taught at International and represent a great way to experience new topics and to be exposed to online learning. All students are encouraged to enroll. However, to ensure that you will stay the course and are set up for success in this independent learning experience, we will only approve students with good academic standing, strong studying habits and an adequate level of availability. Grades of the GOA courses will be included on the transcript but will not count towards the GPA.

Here is the course catalog.  Enrollment is now open for summer. Please fill out this form if you are interested in registering for a GOA course. Dina Ghobashy, Academic Technology Director will be serving as our GOA Site Director and will be in touch with you once the form is completed.

We are very enthusiastic about this new partnership with the GOA and look forward to supporting our students in their online endeavors.
