How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in International High School. If you have any questions about any of the steps listed below, please contact the Admissions Office at (415) 558-2084 or (415) 558-2093 or by email.

Step 1 - Inquire

Log in to our Ravenna Portal and express your interest with an online inquiry (the live link will be available at the end of August).

Step 2 - Register for an Event (including SFJazz!)

1. International Showcase at SFJazz
We strongly recommend that you and your parents kick off your Admission season research by attending our charismatic International Showcase at SFJazz. You can register for the 7pm show on October 1st here. This is a fun and informative way to understand the power of the IB Diploma program at International, and will serve as a comparative high benchmark as you explore other schools on your list.

2. Sunday Open House
Next on your journey will be registering on Ravenna for a Sunday Open House on October 21 or November 18. There is no redundancy with the SFJazz show. Our Sunday Open Houses provide an upbeat overview of the school's academic, athletic, performing arts, and global travel programs; and provide an opportunity to meet our faculty, current students, and families on the campus.

3. Parent/Principal Classroom Tour
Parents/Guardians may also sign up on Ravenna for a lively informational session with our Principal that incorporates visiting multiple classrooms in action! We risk opening our doors in this intimate way because we are delighted by the parent response to the high levels of thinking and engagement generated by our talented teachers from all over the world. We are unique in providing this high benchmark window.

Step 3 - Schedule a Shadow Visit and Interview

The student shadow visit includes a campus tour with a member of the Admission Team and participation in two classes.

An interview is required of all applicants. You may sign up for your interview in the online portal.

Please log in to the application portal to register for an event. If you do not have a user name and password, please go back to step 1 and complete the online inquiry.

Step 4 - Register for a Standardized Test

Our school code for the SSAT is 3274 and for the ISEE is 052943. We also accept the following tests: CTP 4, SAT 9, and CAASPP.

The IELTS or TOEFL (our code is 8841) is required for non-native English speakers who are applying to the international section. The following minimum scores are recommended for successful integration to a rigorous academic program in which English is the primary language of instruction.  IELTS: 6.0-6.5. TOEFL: 94 (internet-based test), 45 (paper-based test).

Step 5 - Distribute Recommendation Forms

Separate recommendation forms need to be completed by the following:

  • Your current Principal/Counselor
  • Your current English teacher
  • Your current Math teacher

Please ensure that you give the forms and addressed, stamped envelopes to your teachers early so they can be submitted by the deadline.  Teachers can also email PDF versions of the recommendations to

Step 6 - Submit Your Application

Submit your application through the application portal. All application materials must by submitted by the deadline of January 10, 2019 at midnight.

Step 7 - Submit Official Transcripts

Your parents/guardians must complete the Transcript Release Form and give it to your school counselor or registrar so they can send us your seventh grade and eighth grade transcripts and your official test scores. Please ask your school to include a copy of the signed transcript release form for our files.

The application deadline for the 2018-2019 school year has passed.
