WOMEN'S VARSITY HEAD COACH:
Coach Chew was born and raised in San Bruno, CA. He attended Capuchino High School and was a four-sport Varsity athlete, lettering in cross country, soccer, tennis, track & field. After high school, Coach Chew graduated from UC Irvine with a bachelors degree in Economics with a minor in Business Management. In addition, he has received his teaching credential in Physical Education from San Francisco State University. His passion for coaching basketball started during his college years, where he taught multiple skill development basketball camps at Legarza Basketball Camp. It is there where he discovered his passion for mentoring boys and girls of all skill levels around the game of basketball, helping them become the best version of themselves.
Coach Chew has spent the last 4 years as a coach at the Bay School of San Francisco. Over the last four years, he has been the Interim Assistant Athletic Director, Boys Varsity Soccer Assistant Coach, Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach and Girls Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach. During his tenure, Coach Chew has been under the mentorship of Coach Larry Minnich, who has helped prepare him for the nuances of running a Girls Varsity Basketball program in the North Coast Section Division 5 and BCL Central League.
Professionally, Coach Chew earned experience in leadership roles ranging from Personal Banking with Wells Fargo Bank to being a student mentor with a non-profit called Eayikes. Currently, Brian is a PE teacher at Parkside Middle School. This diverse amount of leadership experience has laid the foundation for his understanding of the importance of team culture, collaboration and being adaptable. Coach Chew is confident in his ability to collaborate and connect with his players so that the team can work together towards higher team achievement and future success.
WOMEN'S VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH:
Coach Beal was born and raised in Pleasant Valley, NY and he attended Arlington High School. After high school, Coach Beal graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. His passion for coaching basketball started in high school. He founded and ran a basketball summer league for Arlington High School students. During his professional years, he coached 5th-6th grade boys for the town of Pleasant Valley. It is there he discovered his passion coaching and teaching.
Coach Beal began his professional career in NY working in Asset Management at PricewaterhouseCoopers. His time there helped grow a personal sense of discipline, accountability, and collaboration. When Coach Sam was not working, he was growing his project, Conversations over Coffee, a weekly discussion group to create a space that prioritized dialogue over discussion. He moderated groups of five-seven people through topics such as Stoicism and collaborated with local organizations and schools to create actionable items such as building a solar panel cell phone charger using used parts.
Sam moved to San Francisco December of 2017 to pursue his passion in becoming a high school history teacher. In his spare time, Sam enjoys playing basketball, reading, biking and exploring new places.
